THE COURSE DETAILS
"Fingerstyle Jazz and the Art of Solo Playing" by Francesco Buzzurro is a journey through the advanced techniques of solo guitar, where each lesson is a piece to build a deep and functional understanding of the art of solo playing.
Designed for both emerging guitarists and veterans, the course covers essential aspects such as optimal use of the right hand, mastery of scales and arpeggios, and innovative improvisation techniques.
The first part of the course focuses on the right hand, the main engine in fingerstyle. Buzzurro introduces exercises to develop finger precision and independence, essential for performing complex arpeggios and maintaining a steady pulse while intertwining melodies and bass. Lessons on scales follow, with a focus on how to use them effectively in solo contexts, increasing fluidity and execution speed.
A distinctive element of the course is the approach to position playing. Buzzurro teaches to deeply understand the keyboard and the keys in order to unleash the creative potential of the guitarist, allowing them to navigate between different positions with ease. This is closely linked to the in-depth study of musical intervals, learning to recognize and use them to enrich one's improvisations.
The techniques of improvisation are a cornerstone of the course. Through the examination of standard pieces and the introduction to techniques such as alternate bass, Buzzurro guides students through complex processes to develop musical phrases that are expressive and technically sound. The teaching is enriched by the analysis of how target notes and guide notes can be used to structure advanced phrasing.
The lessons progress towards more complex concepts, such as the use of chromatic and diatonic approaches and rhythmic variations that enrich performances. Buzzurro also explains how the concepts of contrary motion and chord substitutions can transform a simple harmonic progression into a complex and multifaceted work.
The course not only imparts technical knowledge but also encourages a holistic approach to music, where theory, technique, and expression merge to create a complete and versatile musician. With lessons rich in practical examples and creative insights, Francesco Buzzurro not only teaches how to play the guitar: he shapes artists capable of communicating through the strings.
