THE THEMES OF THE MASTERCLASS
"Guitar Alchemy" is organized into specific modules, each addressing a fundamental aspect of playing the guitar, from advanced picking to the secrets of impeccable vibrato. Each module is like a station on a journey that shapes you as a musician.
But it's not just about techniques and skills. With Osvaldo, every lesson is an adventure in the vast universe of music. You will discover new techniques, creative effects, and different musical styles, enriching your repertoire and your understanding of music.
And the beauty of all this? You don't have to wait years to see the fruits of your effort. Every lesson is a treasure of useful information that allows you to grow as a musician from day one.
START NOWThe objective of the course is to focus on two aspects often overlooked in music: control and pronunciation. Osvaldo emphasizes the importance of these elements, which are often placed in the background compared to other topics such as scales, chords, and techniques.
Osvaldo Lo Iacono explains how this often overlooked technique is essential for achieving clear pronunciation and precise control of notes. The video covers various exercises and tips to improve fluency and accuracy when playing notes on adjacent strings, avoiding interruptions or unwanted overlaps.
Osvaldo explores different aspects of bending, a fundamental technique to make guitar phrasing more expressive and "vocal." The video covers various exercises and tips to improve intonation, control, and precision in bending.
In this lesson, Osvaldo explores the details of vibrato, a technique that aims to make the sound of the guitar more similar to the human voice. The video covers various aspects such as the amplitude and speed of vibrato, providing practical exercises to improve control and expressiveness.
Osvaldo in this lesson emphasizes the importance and methods of maintaining the duration of notes, especially in lyrical melodies, to distinguish a guitarist with good control of the instrument. The video offers practical exercises to improve finger independence and right-hand coordination.
In the sixth lesson, Osvaldo illustrates how to use the glissando, or "slide," to connect two notes or to grace a note. The video offers practical exercises that work on single strings, linking the adjacent degrees and how the glissando can be used in different musical contexts, both ascending and descending, and how it can add expressiveness to phrasing.
In the seventh lesson, Osvaldo explores how the right hand is fundamental for expressing rhythm and volume, focusing on dynamics and the importance of varying the volume within a musical phrase. He then goes through numerous practical exercises to develop greater control of volume, both using the pick and the fingers, and also introduces the technique of hybrid picking.
Osvaldo talks about the importance of this often overlooked technique for eliminating unwanted notes and noises during phrasing. He illustrates how both the right and left hands are involved in damping the strings, contributing to a cleaner and more defined sound. All of this is accompanied by practical exercises and tips on how to use different parts of the hands to achieve the best damping effect, both when using a pick and when playing with the fingers.
In the ninth lesson, we delve into how to manage the dynamics in the approach to Double Stops, a technique that can present some difficulties. Osvaldo presents us with practical exercises to play intervals like thirds and sixths, both with a pick and with the fingers. Additionally, the video covers advanced techniques like the "Flame," which consists of playing the two notes of the interval slightly offset for a more expressive effect.
Tenth lesson with Osvaldo, who gives us a melodic-harmonic guideline and shows how to apply the techniques learned so far in a composition. Osvaldo emphasizes the importance of pronunciation and diction of musical phrases, and introduces the use of reverb as a "glue" element between harmony and melody. The tutorial is enriched with practical examples on a chord progression in C major and offers tips on how to make the progression interesting from a melodic point of view.
In this lesson, we move to a guitar with a floating bridge and Osvaldo focuses on how to use the lever to enhance melodic lines. He explains how the lever can be used in various ways, from a delicate and intimate approach to a more extreme one. There are also practical exercises on how to use the lever on chords and single notes, with particular attention to pitch control and returning the lever to the resting position.
Finally, here we are at the epilogue! The video summarizes the main objective of the course: to improve the control of the instrument and the expressive ability of the guitarist. Osvaldo Lo Iacono emphasizes the importance of emotions in music and how they can only be effectively conveyed through accurate control of the instrument. He also invites viewers to work consciously on the exercises, both from a melodic and harmonic perspective, stressing that only control and awareness can lead to true expressive freedom.
