THE COURSE DETAILS
The course "Santa Armonia 1 - REMASTERED" by Valerio Silvestro is a deep dive into the world of musical harmony, designed for musicians of all levels who wish to explore the foundations and advanced techniques of harmonization.
Through 15 detailed video lessons totaling over 4 hours and a comprehensive 170-page manual, the course covers a wide range of topics, starting from the basics of piano notes, the construction and recognition of major and minor scales, to the understanding and use of intervals, triads, quadrads, and chord extensions.
Valerio Silvestro guides the students through the process of building and connecting chords, showing how to use upper extensions to create richer and more complex sounds.
The course also introduces advanced concepts such as modal interchange, temporary dominants, and substitutes for the fifth degree (SubV), providing students with the tools to enrich their harmonic progressions and radically transform any musical piece.
The last module of the course focuses on the practical application of the acquired knowledge, with concrete examples of reharmonization that show how a simple song can be transformed into a sophisticated composition full of new sounds.
"Santa Armonia 1" is not just a theoretical course, but a true path of artistic growth, which encourages students to develop their creativity and to best express their musical potential.
START NOWThe importance of practice to quickly recognize notes on the piano
Practical exercises and tips to develop a cleaner and more professional sound, with particular attention to right-hand technique.
After mastering the scales with sharps, it's time to learn those with flats.
The intervals, through the major scales, are our "meter" between the notes.
Triads, chords of three notes, are fundamental in music. Learning major triads is essential in order to modify them and create others.
Introduction to quadrads, four-note chords, with a focus on variations such as dominant seventh, minor seventh, half-diminished, and diminished.
Extensions, like spices in cooking, enrich the chords, creating a wider and more complex sound range.
Introduction to alterations of extensions in chords, particularly for the dominant seventh chord, further enriching our palette of "harmonic colors".
In-depth look at how to build and connect chords using upper extensions to create richer and more complex sounds.
Introduction to the advanced use of harmonic colors in 2-5-1, enriching chords with extensions and alterations to create complex sounds typical of jazz and beyond.
Introduction to harmonic analysis, which translates harmonic progressions into a series of numbers and functions, and explanation of the 6 fundamental harmonic mechanisms.
Explanation of temporary dominants, seventh chords built on the fifth degree of each degree of the scale, which enrich the harmonic progression without leading to a modulation.
The fifth degree substitutes (SubV), or dominant seventh chords built a semitone above the target chord.
Modal interchange, or the use of elements from the minor key within a major key to enrich the harmony. Introduction to non-functional dominants, dominant chords that do not resolve to the I degree but add color and harmonic enjoyment, typical of blues.
Valerio Silvestro concludes the course with an encouraging reflection on the practical application of the harmonic knowledge acquired, demonstrating how harmonic analysis and reharmonization can radically transform a musical piece.
