THE COURSE DETAILS
The video course on musical harmony by Valerio Silvestro is a unique opportunity to take your understanding of music to the next level.
Through a series of detailed video lessons, Valerio explores advanced concepts of harmony, showing how to reharmonize musical pieces, create complex progressions, and enrich your compositions with new techniques.
Starting from the foundations of the Santa Armonia 1 and 2 video courses, this third chapter introduces the use of temporary dominants and harmonic substitutions, key elements to add depth and interest to your musical progressions.
The course is not limited to theory; Valerio emphasizes the importance of a daily practice that integrates rational, creative, emotional, and sensory-motor aspects.
This approach ensures that the techniques learned are well internalized and effectively applied in daily musical experience.
The lessons on harmonized scale show how to use different harmonic functions and variations of chord positions to create a variety of harmonic progressions.
A fundamental part of the course is dedicated to the exploration of temporary dominants, with practical exercises that consolidate the understanding and use of these techniques.
Furthermore, the dominant substitutions (SubV) are used to enrich the harmony, offering new creative possibilities.
The Modal Interchange introduces the insertion of chords from the parallel minor key, creating emotional and dynamic contrasts.
The diminished chords are another focal point, used to resolve harmonically on higher or lower degrees of the scale, enhancing the fluidity of progressions.
The theory is always illustrated with practical examples from well-known pieces; furthermore, the course explores the stylistic and harmonic changes in the piece "Moanin", demonstrating the use of rhythmic and harmonic variations to adapt a piece to modern contexts.
This video course is ideal for musicians who want to deepen their understanding of harmony and acquire practical tools to create richer and more engaging music. Each lesson is a step forward towards complete mastery of harmonic techniques, which will allow you to transform your compositions and performances.
Together with the course, you will find at your disposal a booklet with all the transcripts of the exercises and the excerpts examined.
START NOWUse of the concepts developed in the Santa Armonia 1 and 2 video courses to reharmonize musical pieces, adapting them to various parameters such as mood, style, and tempo.
Importance of daily practice to use complex harmonic techniques and to use them in a rational, creative way with a strong sensory-motor ability.
Harmonized scale: reharmonization techniques using variations of chord positions to create interesting and varied harmonic progressions.
Temporary dominants: creation of harmonic interest through dominant seventh chords on the degrees of the scale, increasing tension and resolving on tonic chords.
Application of temporary dominants in the harmonized scale and in the turnaround, with practical exercises to consolidate the understanding and use of these harmonic techniques.
Substitution Dominants (SubV): use of dominant seventh chords to enrich the harmony, replacing the original dominants to create new harmonic progressions.
Modal Interchange: harmonic enrichment through the insertion of chords from the parallel minor key, creating an emotional and dynamic contrast.
Diminished chords: use to resolve harmonically on higher or lower degrees of the scale, improving the fluidity and complexity of harmonic progressions.
Practical example with the application of advanced techniques on a piece (The We Never Be), demonstrating the use of reharmonization and harmonic enrichment in the context of a composition.
Stylistic and harmonic changes in the famous piece "Moanin'", illustrating the use of rhythmic and harmonic variations to adapt it to modern contexts, using ornaments such as the mordent and scale variations.
